We use a halter but I like the way your caveson fits.  We use light rope
lines rather than clips so they work on any halter.  

It makes no sense to me to ground drive a young horse from a bit as there is
so much weight on the lines between your hand and the bit - so much more
than when you are riding.  Actually regardless of the horses age I still
start ground driving from a halter rather than a bit.
