I think you can say that " A + B always = A or B" if it is a simple 
dominant/recessive controlled trait.

You can have incomplete dominance, or incomplete penetrance, or polygenic 
traits (continuous variation traits).

Breeding would definitely be easier if all traits were simple 
dominate/recessive controlled!
