The long upper curve, and short lower curve is an "arched" neck.  This type 
of neck lends the horse to be more athletic.  It's a good neck for dressage, 
and allows the horse more flexibility in the neck.

The short, more straight upper curve, with the longer lower curve, is an 
upside down neck.  It is more difficult on horses with this type of neck to 
flex at the poll, dropping to the vertical.
