not saying this is the case at all Dawn, but it is a good opening for
me to bring up a point i like to bring up when I can---  in
walking/racking horses, they learn to SEEK the pain of things.  they
will go behind the vertical themselves, without being put there by the
rider, for instance, now why on earth would they do this?  rote
obedience for one, but in many/most cases, they learn if they just
give in and do the painful thing and not fight it, it makes things
easier for them but ALSO, and most importantly, the pain causes a
RELEASE OF ENDORPHINS, the same endorphins that will make a horse crib
until it starves to death or colics.  they actually get hooked on it.
