Doing some organizing I came across the magazine I saved where I first read about the Icelandic....so, it took me about 10 years after reading that story to get my first Icelandic!
The comments that hooked me on Icelandics from the article "Horse of the Gods" by Betsy Sikora Siino: "A 900-pound dog," is how Icelandic owner Jane Lane describes the breed. "It's two different horses in one" explains (Helen) Mehan. "It's this sweet horse that's so nice to handle and be around, and then when you get on, it's a real power horse to ride." "It's very important to choose the right Icelandic, because they bond. They're known for doing that, for developing a one-on-one relationship with their owner or just a few people" (Mehan) And the article also said this about the tolt: The Icelandic's repertoire includes the walk, trot and canter, as well as the running walk known as the toelt, and the more advanced and very rapid pace. I'll save this magazine forever. V
