time to plant the rye! I bought my seed yesterday! Does anybody else plant rye in winter? If so what month do you plant? It is actually a little early to plant but I am going to plant it two weeks from now. The seed I have is called "Gulf Coast Rye" which is supposed to be best for our area. I see in the stores "deer plot mix" seed and it says it has wheat, rye, oats and some sort of austrian peas. I wonder about planting some of that but I have heard that oats as a grass can get a fungus on them that is harmful to horses. I was going to plant some red clover to add nitrogen to the soil but it was 75 a bag. Gulf Coast rye was 20 a bag. and last time I planted clover in the yard, white clover, just a small patch, the horses ignored it and it attracted bees (my husband is deadly allergic to bees/etc)
