Unfortunately, there is another side to all this. There are actually people
making a living by taking advantage of the good-heartedness of most people.
Last year a young lady approached me in a mall with the story that her purse
was stolen at a gas station and that she desperately needed money to buy gas
to get home. So I gave her twenty dollars. I later saw her approach other
people and later learned from shop owners that is regularly there, taking
advantage of peoples' compassion. So I think some people who have been
burned that way may be reluctant to be played for sucker. I don't think it
has anything to do with religion at all.
