It's kind of a pebbly, rubbery kind of stuff with sort of an open pattern. It's not fibrous though, not like the Dixie Midnight pads, and it's not like the Dryback tops found on the Skitos. Is that too technical? :) I've seen saddle pads made of it, and a good many of the newer Torsion saddles have it for their underside. I'm not sure I'd want it next to the horse's skin for long periods, but it does provide some nice grip. I think it would probably be ok for a bareback pad against most horses skin, for short periods, if all for all day rides. I'll try to get a picture - maybe that will help.
