Pretty much the things I'd already noticed. One, she suggested that I watch that the billet ring doesn't cause undue pressure on the horse's sides - but riding with a saddle pad should take care of that - or as she pointed out, simply wrapping it with vet wrap would probably do the trick. One thing I hadn't noticed was that the metal under the nylon strapping (attaching the billet rings) was a little rough, so that the pulley action of the ring (a good design) would make the metal act like a saw tooth - not so good - and would cut through the strapping before the pad was old. But, simply wrapping that piece of metal with vet wrap (or the old standby- duct tape) should do the trick - anything to cushion the rough metal.
