The throw aways that bother me are the older ones - hhhmmm - maybe that's an age thing. I just hate the ads in the paper where an 8 year old (sometimes older) dog is looking for a new home. I'm sorry but that's sick.
One of our many rescues was a little dog we called Gramps. We had been out somewhere and came home late. It was pitch dark and pouring rain. We live at the end of half a mile of dirt road and there on our doorstop was this little old dog, probably part Doxie. Bruce reached over to pick him up and I started shaking my head "no". Then the little guy sat up on his haunches to beg. He had a grey grizzled muzzle and was deaf and blind and lived with us for several years until his death. He chose one chair in the living room for his special place. He was just a delight. And there's no way that deaf blind dog found his was 1/2 a mile up a dirt driveway, 25 miles from the nearest town, without a little assiatance. Nancy
