I think there's also a tremendous difference in trainers even in exactly the same discipline, and it's a rare trainer who can or will train the horse as you ask rather than to his/her own personal philosophy of what's good/right. It's also the owner's responsibility to make sure the trainer understands what's required of the horse. Do you want a super sensitive hot competition horse that "fulfills all his potential" gaits-wise, or a quiet riding horsethat's comfortable and safe for a nervous novice? That's the thing with Icelandics, (and it's both a blessing and a curse), you can have both qualities in the same horse, and the way he's trained will decide what sort of horse he will be....
