What do you do when he stops? I will try and go one step to the side. When they get this sticky, I am happy with just one step in any direction (except backwards, which is my mare's evasion). Take a step to the side, stop and reward. Count to 10 then ask for another, stop, praise, count to 9, ask for another step, etc... When you get to 1, consider it good and head back home.
