could i ask how it happened Christine? In the interest of prevention.
I am trying to picture it. my nasi as a yearling knocked me down a
few times being a rascal. One time he came galloping from a quarter
mile away and clipped me, sending me sprawling. And I am heavy! But
I just went sprawling. I was just wondering if it stepped on you. I
broke my collar bone and 3 ribs one time, but i fell off my jaspar who
is a real tall walking horse and landed exactly on the point of my
shoulder really hard. I have been knocked down a lot, mostly because
i am clumsy and have had many young horses and there is always that
stage where they seem to walk all over you in early training. One
time I was leading nasi and he acted like a brat so I put a stud chain
across his nose to teach him a lesson (interesting how when you get
really really mad you still stuipidly use as a default the ridiculous
power struggle) and the instant he felt the chain tighten over his
nose he immediately reared straight up and pawed at the air, his feet
right next to my head. taught me a good lesson :) the instant i took
that chain off he led just fine btw.
anyway, I was curious and wanting lurid details. as for Nancy, my
Stonewall, if he hasnt been turned out for a week, when i turn the
horses out he will hang back and snuggle with me, then suddenly, in an
instant, whirl and bolt for turnout, kicking up his heels. I have
learned to snuggle him on the other side of the gate at turnout :) I
read somewhere that a woman died turning out her old deadbroke mares
because one was happy and kicked up her heels, clipping the woman in
the head. Horses can be so dangerous, even the nicest ones!
