Again Kevin and I found ourselves in a room full of non-horse people.
A few of them knew that Cara and I had trained Gusti ourselves, and
when I said that Gusti and I had taken our first lesson together, they
looked at me and asked, "why would you take riding lessons?"  I sort
of stopped in my tracks and tried to formulate an answer that would
make sense to them.

Why would Kevin and I take lessons?  I guess to NOT take lessons would
be absolutely so foreign to us that I couldn't form an answer that
made much sense to them.  I couldn't imagine not wanting to learn
more.

How do you explain wanting to have a trained eye watch you and tell
you what you are doing wrong.  To feel when your horse is relaxed, and
when he is not travelling ventroflexed.  To feel when his hindquarters
are beginning to work more and he's not travelling as much on the
forehand anymore...

How do you decide when you've learned enough?
