She was with the same group of horses from age 6 weeks
to 8 months. When she was weaned, she was with 3 or 4
other weanlings, but she was the youngest. I did not
own her mother, she belonged to the lady I bought my
TWH from. I did not have my fence up yet, and still
had my horse at the breeders barn, and I fell in love
with Whisper's mother, who was an Arab. She was
pregnant, and I just knew I wanted the foal, no matter
the sex or color. I used to talk to Whisper before
she was born when I would groom her mom. Then when
she was born, mom didn't want her, but if you haltered
her, she would stand and let Whisper nurse. Whisper
started limping and I thought Mom had kicked her, and
within an hour went from limping to near coma, and I
called the vet, and while I was waiting, I forced milk
replacer down her throat while I thought she was dying
in my lap. Finally the vet got there, said it was
foal fever, including the limping and swollen joints,
gave her anti-biotics and Whisper was up shortly
thereafter. The vet told me that my forcing the milk
replacer down her throat kept her from a real coma and
probably saved her life. About a week later, Mom
started accepting Whisper after the breeder put a mare
next to her who wanted Whisper. Whisper came to my
house at about 8 months of age.
