No Old Dutch :-((((( So sometimes I bring some back with me. Very sad.
No Smarties, either, but a friend mailed me a bunch for Christmas. <phew!>
I worked at the tracks in Calgary, Edmonchuk and Vancouver. In the winter I
lived and worked on a farm in Okotoks. I assume everyone knows where that
is. Well, for those few who might not - Okotoks is outside of Calgary a
ways, on the way to High River. When I was there, it was a little town of a
few hundred people, and a large number of cattle and horses. In the winter
we spread the manure and straw from the barns out on the outer edge of the
track at the farm and that's what we galloped on, starting in, I think,
February. It was a little nerve wracking because if the horse decided to
stray off the manure, it would hit very frozen and generally icey footing.
The boss had us galloping as long as it was warmer than minus 20 F. How
many clothes can you wear and still ride (er...stay on)? (there isn't much
"riding"; you point the horse in the general direction and hang on).
Bloody cold. I went out to feed this morning and it was about 32 F. Now I
think that's bloody cold. Funny how the temperature changes.
