i went thru something similar with nasi. The seller had her vet say
he was healthy. But I insisted on an independent vet check. So to be
really independent, I couldnt ask the seller to refer someone so I
contacted a vet thru the yellow pages. He examined nasi and said he
had a slightly elevated temp and he would not sign off on him as
healthy until he treated him with this very expensive very large jolt
of antibiotics. Nasi had no illness symptoms whatsoever. the vet
suggested he do bloodwork. the seller was paying for all this. I had
a trip scheduled to go from fla to texas and pick him up on a certain
date. The bloodwork came back fine. but he said the horse's temp was
still elevated. By one degree. The seller hauled his dam, and two
icelandics from a nearby farm for temp to be taken. they all seemed
normal but nasi, his was one degree elevated. The independent vet
wanted to do more bloodwork. The seller finally said, look, I am into
this for more money than I am willing to spend right now. (almost 500
bucks) I suggest you either buy him on my vet's statement that he is
healthy, get another vet at your own expense, or wait a couple of
months and lets see if he starts showing any symptoms of illness." It
was two weeks til my trip date. I finally paid myself for him to have
the large antibiotic treatment of shots, four shots, one each day
consecutively, the seller having to haul him in each day, a perfectly
healthy horse. It was just a huge pain. Then when I get there the
seller says "well, I didn't think you would take it well if I told you
the vet you selected was sort of known for being disreputable." So
how is a person supposed to know??

heck, you dont need a nigerian to get ripped off...
