>>>> Maybe Icelandic owners as a whole are more clued up on recognising it?

BWHAAHAHAHA! That's a good one Mic. Now, seriously, no Mic, I've been an
avid reader of anything equine-health related since I got horses almost 20
years ago. I regularly go to educational seminars given by the local Ag
department, the NCSU extension offices, and the farriers. My daughter used
to show hunters, then dressage. Nope, I have NO doubt that spavin is MUCH
more common in imported Icelandic's than in any breed I'd ever encountered
before.

The first thing that struck me about the casual conversations about both
spavin and SE when I started talking to the owners of imported Icelandic's
was how insulated the group was as a whole - particularly the
"traditionalists"- from "mainstream" horsemanship in about every way, from
health care to farm management practices to riding to training. No...in no
way do I think the "traditional" Icelandic community, as a whole is more
"clued up" on much of anything health-care related.

"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
