a difference with asphalt and ice -- a friend of mine's paso fino was
gaiting moderately fast on asphalt and slipped and went down, she fell
also and tore all kinds of ligaments and was told she will probably
always have pain from it....  with ice they have the cleats that
stick, so the horse doesnt slip and go down, the joints "take it".
