I dont think a treat has to always be food. I have always gone out to
visit my horses in the field, very often at night, and I always make a
point of carrying the halter and lead, or even a bridle. Often when I
am going to get Tovar for instance, I will walk up to Stonewall or
Jaspar first with the halter and love on them, petting all over, hugs
and kisses, then go get the horse I really want, so they never know...
am I coming to love on em or coming to work em... Tommie Turvey the
trick trainer, he says any time a horse sees you coming with something
and seems nervous you need to carry that "thing" with you any time you
go in the paddock, and especially when you feed, carry it as you are
feeding. Our only horse thats hard to catch is Traveller, and guess
who's horse he is DUH, not mine! Hubby's. My horses love to see me
coming.
