Join the club - we've all been there, so no apologies needed. Remember the Parelli idea about the initial "friendly game" where you just take a lawn chair and a book to the pasture and read until their curiosity gets the better of them. Remember they WILL be at home soon, and the snow WILL eventually melt. And when all this falls into place, have your reading material handy and a few carrots or cookies and prepare to have some fun playing. :) >>> Do you always go out and get each horse individually? Pretty much. Sometimes it's just a matter of opening the stall door and letting the horse into the barn, but that depends on how/when my urge to ride coincides with their agenda du jour. Sometimes my timing is a little off and I decide it's a good time to ride, right as they finish up their siesta and are heading to the back edge of the pasture to graze. They aren't generally quite so happy then, but they rarely run away. Usually they are very easy to catch, but not always with equal enthusiasm. (Buck wants to know why no one rides him - if I'm not careful, he sticks his head into the halter and says here I am...) So far, I just let Angie follow Runa to the barn. Runa is very easy to catch and Angie is quite content to follow. I have put the halter on her a few times in the pasture now, but I always take it off immediately. I'm in no hurry. I'm just happy that I CAN get a halter on her in a big open area. >>> What if you want to move the herd? V We have connecting gates between most of my pastures so I just open the gate and the nosy busybodies come running to see what's up. No need for a herd dog when there's new pasture to explore - even if they were just on the same pasture a week or two before! When I do make a more dramatic move (from the back pasture to the front pastures which aren't connected) I lead a couple of horses at a time.
