Degrading?  When and how?  If you think that having a gait called something
other than “tolt” is degrading, then yes, maybe.  But it seems to me that
the list policy is to learn to accept…and even take pride in… the
multigaitedness of the breed, then how can that be degrading?   The horses
do what they do, based on the conformation that God gave each of them.  It’s
up to us to learn what our individual horses do best, and to appreciate
whatever that is, and to find suitable homes where their gaitedness is
appreciated and not a handicap.


I’m free to say that a single still picture can’t always convey the gait
that a horse is doing, so I question some of the gait photos.  But, on the
other hand, I’ve seen way too many breeders label pictures of their horses
who are either trotting or pacing as “tolt” examples.   That’s scary.
