a cougar!! Oh my gosh, Wanda, I would seriously look into getting two
or three guardian dogs, anatolian shepherds, Great Pyrenees, Meremma
(sp?). Their presence might discourage a cougar. I have been looking
into it and researching, and my peacock breeder friend has pups for
sale for 100 each. I have seen his in action, not actually scaring
things off, but working. They are loners, identifying with the "herd"
that they guard and not with each other. His are great pyrenees.
Even tho they have full access to house and grounds and all pastures,
each picked a spot in the middle of a field where he could see in all
directions and they lay in the tall grass and watch. When we came up
one left his position and came to greet us, warmly, not a mean guard
dog, then went back to his flock of birds and sheep and goats. The
man said the first year he had several dead predators a week turn up
and now they dont even come into his property because of the dogs. He
has the dogs set up where automatic feeders come on twice a day inside
an enclosure only they can enter and exit and never leave the fenced
pastures.
