Three days...? Saga was pasture bred to Segull before she came here. Christine saw her get bred right after she put them together, but I think she was with him about a month. I used the dates she gave me for calculating her due date, although the vet seemed puzzled when she did her ultrasound when she first got here - she didn't think she was that far along. Anyway, apparently she didn't get pregnant until right before she got on the trailer to come to NC...and even then, she proceeded to go at least 360-364 days (normal is 340-350) before she had Refur. I was on foal-watch for SIX FREAKING WEEKS! Bjola was pregnant with Ima, and Brunka was also pregnant. I waited and waited, and waited. That was when Skjoni and Falki went AWOL with the nutty hauler too, and even the adult geldings were seven weeks late! After all that waiting, Refur was born on just before midnight on Tuesday, April 27, Miska two days later on April 29, then the hauler rolled in with MIA's Falki and Skjoni early in the morning of April30...then I checked on Bjola at lunchtime and I knew she would be delivering within 10-15 hours - she was born just after midnight that night, very early May 1. All that waiting, then five new arrivals in four days. I don't remember much about that week...no sleep for me! Oh yeah, the morning of May 1 was the scheduled pony ride birthday party here at Aunt Karen's for my then four-year-old nephew. Thank god for friends. I finally went to bed about seven a.m. and two of my friends got Mac and Holly ready for pre-schooler lead line rides that morning. What a week... Karen Thomas, NC
