CTR rules prevent you from walking or running with your horse? I didn't
know that, and I'm not sure I think that's a good thing
I've always wondered about that rule. It's true, but it is also surprising.
Lots of endurance riders also run and the fit ones will run beside their
horses. Abby's sweet old horse broke down last year and she walked 10 miles
beside him until she reached a vet check where he could catch the ambulance
back to camp. She's still grieving.
Bev tells a story from their early days of endurance before they learned to
ride more conservatively. When they got into the last vet check WAY to
fast, the vet looked at Robert and said, "You look like a pretty fit guy. I
think you'd better run in beside your horse." So he ran the last five miles
and still came in near the front.
