This has probably been talked about before, excuse me if it has.

Gat and Orri were given grain at the boarding barn because all the
other horses had it--it was how the horses learned where their stall
was, and coming in from the field they knew that there was grain
waiting for them so they would go right to their stalls on their own
when the field gate opened.

Anyways, I don't want to feed grain but I would like to supplement
their diet.  I was looking at a Blue Seal product, Sunshine or
something, which is described as a supplement for horses which don't
get fed grain, but it said it was high in protein.  My question is--do
I need to feed my horses something high in protein?  My horses are
more companion/pet than riding machine so they're not burning a lot of
energy.
