feel they've fallen into the hands of benevolent captors. I > have that same feeling with some horses. We seem nice, but ... they didn't > ask to come here. > > Nancy >
I saw something, read something, heard it maybe, cant remember where... it said that every immigrant to the US came with a feeling of excitement and hope, a new beginning, to make whatever they wanted if they would just work hard enough... but that African slaves came here against their will, leaving homes they loved and beloved family members, lived in terror and pain the whole way over, then were chained and used as beasts of burden. So that is of course a little different mindset on the ol american dream. if i was a horse and I had ever been sold and hauled somewhere, I might never get on a trailer again, but they do. and I have horses, my traveller has been with Jas since he was 10 months old and one time i thought they were getting buddy sour and I separated them traveller tried to jump the fence in only a couple of hours. So i think they would die if separated. But the ones you see separated from these life mates, they go on, usually attaching strongly to another, like Trausti seems to have just latched on to Nasi and is treating him just like a horse treats a younger horse he has been with for years, scolding him, gently disciplining him, but staying right with him in the pasture when all the horses are out, then nipping and playing, then standing over while he sleeps. He doesnt know him at all, so it can only be he REMINDS him of a past relationship and he is latching onto him to create that sense of comfort and ease... and its good for Nasi too, cause I know he misses teev, his paddock mate. i know they greive tho, a terrible grief. and then they go on... janice -- even good horses have bad days sometimes.
