when stali died, in front of the vets and public health officials I suddenly blurted "can you cut off his tail for me??!" meaning a nice hunk of it. To which my husband blurted in response something that caused everyones mouth to gape and has amazed me to this day. He blurted "we can't send him into the afterlife without a tail to swat flies!" so he cut me a nice snip of mane. and later he explained it is an american indian belief. Thats why they scalped people, to humiliate them in the afterlife. because they believed you took what you had when you left. so indians made their enemies go into the afterlife bald headed. janice -- even good horses have bad days sometimes.
