Sounds like she may have had DIC.

Our adopted daughter Brenda, who is disabled (cerebral palsy, shunted,
seizures, profoundly retarded) is quite brain injured because of having had
TB meningitis as a two year old in Mexico. During her adoption and still in
Mexico, she contracted TB again and had DIC. The fact that she survived is
a nice testament to a dedicated group of residents working in quite
difficult conditions. It was an amazing experience. When she was finally
discharged after almost a month in hospital, one of her doctors carried her
out to the car.

She is now 24 and has had a few other life-threatening episodes but is
basically healtrhy and an absolute delight to be around.
