Icinga does not care about where you put your object configuration - just make sure to include it in the main configuration file (icinga.cfg or icinga2.conf, depending on your version). What I find in there is not so familiar (I am starting with monitoring tools, not un expert) Either way you should read the documentation about monitoring basics and getting started. Even if that's a lot of tech it will truly help understand what's going on, and your learning curve is rather good then. A host or service can only have one check_command attribute.
