Hi Marc,
before you plan with a nsca/send_nsca setup have a look at mod_gearman first
(http://labs.consol.de/lang/de/nagios/mod-gearman/). It`ll make your
distributed monitoring life a lot more comfortable.
See answers below in your text.

Sven

Betreff: [icinga-users] Distributed Monitoring - some question
Hi there,
actually we have a monitoring server which monitors our infrastructure and some
facilities. The facilities are checked via check_by_ssh.
I`m planning to install icinga core in our facilities and send the checks via
nsca to our main monitoring server.
- When icinga accepts passive checks, do I have to configure the hosts
and services on both machines? Or does icinga generate hosts and services
according to the data delivered by nsca?
You have to configure the services as active checks on the monitoring node that
executes it. And as a passive check on the node that receives the results
(with the same name and a "freshness check")
With gearman/mod_gearman you only have a main icinga node and workers on your
facilities (they only need the check plugins)
- If this is done automaticlly, how do I set parent services and/or
hosts?
It isn't besides you automate it yourself with a script - that's what I did in
the past
- On our facilities I don`t have to use the ido utils, because the
checks responses are stored on our main monitoring server. Am I right?
I think so.
-
Thanks in advance and kind regards,
Marc
