file /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_cups_queue
/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_cups_queue: Bourne-Again shell script text

No, it is not.

grep -rin embedded /etc/icinga/*
...
/etc/icinga/icinga.cfg:1215:enable_embedded_perl=1
...
/etc/icinga/icinga.cfg:1226:use_embedded_perl_implicitly=1
...

Yes, embedded Perl is enabled.

I the meantime, I saw another strange thing. I deleted objects.cache
and status.dat before restarting, and (of course) all hosts and
services were in the "pending" state. After some minutes, all but one
hosts were shown UP. Then icinga died. No service check left the
"pending" state. After the next "rcicinga start", the host state was
lost (all "pending" again), icinga started anew and - died at the same
point, one host (the same as before) left, and icinga died at the
"check_cups_queue" command. All those "check_icmp" commands to look at
the host states were run successfully.

What is this? Though retain_state_information=1 and
state_retention_file=/var/log/icinga/retention.dat the retention file
is not created. After creating it manually (as icinga user), it
remains at 0 bytes. The file status.dat in the same directory is
mainained.

And dead again, at check_cups_queue :-(
