Announcement of Cybrarians as non-profit organization

Cairo, Egypt

2012-09-14

In the tenth anniversary of Cybrarians (The Arabic Portal for Librarianship and
Information) it pleasure to announce that Cybrarians has became an official
no-profit organization located in Cairo, Egypt. After 10 years of serious work
in Egyptian and Arabic library community, we had the chance to be an official
non-profit organization after one year of the Egyptian revolution.

Cybrarians was founded in 2002 as a library portal offers free services for
libraries and librarians in Arab countries. In the last 10 years, we had
pioneer works for Arabic library community; in 2004, we have published the
first e-journal in Arabic language “Cybrarians Journal”. In 2005, we issued an
open access database for articles, theses, and conference papers. In 2008, we
have started offering training programs for Arab librarians.

At this new stage, we have a general goal to achieve which is development of
librarianship community in Egypt and Arab countries, and assist them to apply
the most recent technologies and applications. In order to achieve that main
goal; we are working on many services for local and international community:

1. Training programs for librarians.

2. Advocacy services which includes acquisition and cataloging resources, and
library automation.

3. The first digital reference service software in Arab countries.

3. RFID solutions through our Center for RFID Researches in Egypt.

4. Printed and electronic publishing.

5. Library portal which has factual information about Arabic library community.

6. Cybrarians Journal; our open access journal.

7. Open access database for articles, theses and conference papers.

We would like to compose an open message to local and international library
community to cooperate with us; we plan to be the voice of Arab libraries in
the international library community. With open minded strategy; we are ready to
work with the international society to develop Arab libraries, and we will
support the Arab libraries to reach to the international community.

Finally, we would like to invite everyone to visit our new web site, and
communicate with us (www.cybrarians.org <http://www.cybrarians.org/> )
