IIRC there are a lot of good bits in the fork. It's been a little while but I remember us talking about some useful pieces like having any keystroke take you back to the interpreter prompt, regardless of where you are reading, and having the arrow up/down keys act as alt-p alt-n . Those would be great imo. How can I help??!!! Grab some bugs from the bug tracker?
