many thanks to all who answered my "queries from an (old) newbie"
questions. I shall summarise in due course, however at the moment my
acquisition of the demo of Idrisi32 has caused me some serious problems
which are capturing most of my attention right now...

Strictly speaking, the is a Windows95 problem, although as it was
brought on by the Idrisi32 installation routine I thought I'd float it
here and see if anyone else had encountered a similar problem.

On installation, the program reported that DCOM95 was not installed on
my (Win95 OSR-2 32MB, 4GB, Toshiba Satellite) machine. It went ahead and
installed it and then said it would restart the machine to complete the
installation of Idrisi. Ho boy...

the machine now won't boot (other than in Safe Mode), when it crashes on
boot I get (black command prompt screen):

While initializing device IOS:
Error: An I/O subsystem driver failed to load.
Either a file in the .\iosubsys subdirectory is corrupt,
or the system is low on memory.

to which my reply was
"aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!"

anyone else had this?

yours stumped
