--- Start of Idrisi List message Hello Idrisi-L, I'm back to report progress on dealing with importing a geotiff (from Landsat 7) into an older version of Idrisi for Windows, which does not support geotiff. I believe the only reply I got on this list was from Chris Allen (thanks Chris), who suggested that pre I32 versions of Idrisi could not handle compressed tiffs (including geotiffs). However, based on the size of the collection of single band files I have, they do not seem to be compressed (they are a few kbytes larger than RxC - I suppose the extra amount is header info). I haven't had a chance to ask Chris about this. In any event, I could not read in any bands of my file as tiffs. Idrisi claimed not to recognize any TIF files in the directory. I'm not sure why - I tried .tif, .TIF, etc.... I did not try Chris' suggestion of reading the file in photoshop (or similar package) and saving as an uncompressed tiff, in part because I do not have convenient access to Photoshop and because I think my files are not compressed. I was able to read the data in with BILIDRIS (after getting the rows and columns from another package), which further suggests that the files are not compressed and that the headers are actually footers (ie. after the data). Thanks to EROS user services for this suggestion. For some reason, BIPIDRIS did not seem to work, though I did not put much effort into this, since BILIDRIS did work. So, it seems that there are several ways to approach this problem: - get IFW32 - import using BILIDRIS (requires knowledge of header info) - use another package to convert. I was surprised that there was not some freeware-type geotiff converter. Unless, there is something anybody wants to add, I guess that's it. regards, Tom *************************************************************** Tom Albright <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Senior Scientist Raytheon International Program - Science & Applications Branch USGS/EROS Data Center Sioux Falls, SD 57198 tel: (605)594-6061 fax: (605)594-6529 http://edcintl.cr.usgs.gov/ip *************************************************************** --- End of Idrisi List message IDRISI-L is an unmoderated list.
