That of course goes both ways; going to China is never trivial for me, and last summer it was a real issue.
I think YMMV.Over the summer my wife got a Chinese visa in 24 hour turn-around from a Visa office 190 miles from our home without having to visit.
But then we live in the UK.Adrian
