Agreed. In my experience, wikis only work well if they have someone overseeing them to weed out the spam and the flame wars. Actual data point: the IRTF ASRG has a wiki (http://wiki.asrg.sp.am) which works reasonably well, but that's mostly because I'm somewhat selective in handing out passwords so I know who's modifying what.
