openssh and rsync are fine. but what about openssl? Anything linked with
the old copy?

Create rpms as a user (~tzafrir/public_html/mkrpmconf). Install the devel 
packages only for a short period, if that what worries you.

Though it would involve some more "backporting" work, I figure.
