Hi all!

Today I tried to have MediaWiki installed at one place, and then have
different LocalSettings.php files pointing to it. This did not really work as
I needed to modify the index.php file (with an appropriate modification for
LocalSettings.php) and then after everything was set up, the CSS stylesheet
was not opretional. (probably because of a LocalSettings.php file
mis-configuration).

I was told by someone (who I think works for the Wikimedia foundation) that
what he does is having one LocalSettings.php file for all installations (with
several conditionals inside that depend on the host and path). I took a look
at the default LocalSettings.php file and it seemed quite straight-forward to
do it, even with my limited knowledge of PHP.

So I'm going to do it for wiki.perl.org.il and for the Hackers-IL hosts. (step
by step) The Python-IL one will be done later until I coordinate everything
with Amit Aronovich who co-maintains it.

Note that we also need to upgrade MediaWiki to 1.4.7, which was recently
released. I'd rather do what I proposed here beforehand, so we'll only need
to do one upgrade instead of three.

Regards,

        Shlomi Fish
