hi I think you must have made a mistake because it cannot work as the default > gateway has to be the ip address of the router in your hostel and it has to > be on your network i.e. 10.138.0.0 . >
yes theoritically it has to be on my network but right now i am writing this mail from windows xp which has its default gateway as 10.10.1.1 ( in ubuntu i used 10.10.1.2) . I even asked some of my friends using vista. there also gateway is 10.10.1.1 or 10.10.1.2. and internet is working. Anyways if someone have any clue whats going on please clarify. I already learned some of the basics of how networking in linux works.
