If they keyboard too isn't working (meaning Numlock doens't work), just to be sure, are you able to get to consoles (ctrl+alt+f1)? If that too doesn't work, it's probably your kernel crashing. Most likely culprit could be your video drivers. I'd suggest that you start Ubuntu 1. log into a console 2. go to /etc/X11 3. make a backup of xorg.conf 4. replace your video device with "vesa" (I looked at my ubuntu xorg.conf but it appears like a lot of things are auto-configured on the fly). I'd suggest you look up how to do this. In case that your keyboard wasn't working earlier, that clearly indicates that your kernel crashed.
