If they keyboard too isn't working (meaning Numlock doens't work),
just to be sure, are you able to get to consoles (ctrl+alt+f1)? If
that too doesn't work, it's probably your kernel crashing.

Most likely culprit could be your video drivers. I'd suggest that you
start Ubuntu

1. log into a console
2. go to /etc/X11
3. make a backup of xorg.conf
4. replace your video device with "vesa" (I looked at my ubuntu
xorg.conf but it appears like a lot of things are auto-configured on
the fly). I'd suggest you look up how to do this.

In case that your keyboard wasn't working earlier, that clearly
indicates that your kernel crashed. I'd suggest that you reboot, go to
console, and check kernel logs in /var/log/kern.log.* -- copy paste
relevant content here and we might be able to do something about it :p
