Nobody knew Linux at one time.Linux enjoyed the same chance which Microsoft did with IBM (I Built Microsoft). Overkill usage of Linux reminds me of the slang 'Surf' used in households as common noun for washing powder. Invasion of a brand in public mind is a marketing game. We surely need to establish some generic name rather then one specific product. 'Linux' was also a misnomer - GNU guys always complained of that. That is like saying 'MARUTI' and forgetting 'SUZUKI'.
