Let's assume it is right... But then there's no proprietary/closed source alternative that allows you to tweak the code/plugins, or allow one to use a well known language for scripting (Python in blender). > > GIMP Two really great s/w products mentioned with this. Blender and GIMP. But one thing that I was wondering is if these "new" students start using software from somene else when will they really learn. I feel one will learn more when they design the software or parts of it (the industry training can always wait). In fact, using open source projects, they might even improve it beyond the closed source alternative. This might sound totally off topic, but I guess its as good a place as any.
