Isn't it 2G? Anyways, Photon+ works fine with modeswitch, as you say.

I am using a Tata Docomo 3G, on Debian. Not the smoothest for usage, but
decent. The data mode doesn't switch, so I need to eject it and then run
wvdial as root (which prevents me from adding to startup, as the password
needs to be given :( )
