Not here to influence anyone's decision regarding going for or against the UID project, but just as a mere pointer, I would like to mention that there is a cost-benefit analysis of UID project done by NIPFP. The report mentions how they have calculated the benefits of the project, and how it will benefit other government welfare schemes (which might satisfy OPs concern to some extent).
