The thing is, the folder names are exactly as you describe and I can use
them without a problem with Outlook.

Only IlohaMail (CVS snapshot) will not work correctly with them. I do not
really know what can cause this, though. Perhaps some additional package
for php or apache (e.g. for locale-support, utf encoding, etc.)? Or some
setting within courier?
