Hi Arup,
try this out.Open /etc/inittab and look for a line starting with 'x:'
(not including the quotes).It should look something like :
x:35:once:/usr/X11R6/bin/xdm -nodaemon
It might not be xdm as I have'nt used Gnome,but anyway put a # at the
start of the line and reboot.Make sure that you have at least one line
like :
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
(The first and last numbers on the lines can be 1,2,3,4 etc)
