Hi Ppl !

I realized that quite a few of our members possess students shell
accounts with VSNL. And the ones like Rajarshi also downloads his mail [
using fetchmail ?]. Thus I had a few queries since I intend to migrate
to Linux for handling my mail ....

#1. I used Eudora to get my mail and noticed that it was accessing and
sending mail using telnet ( port 110 to send port 106 to change
passwords et al ). So how does binaries in Linux access the mail in
students account directly and get the mail since access to my account is
VERY restricted (as I got to realize) ?

#2. How could I rig up something like Netscape mail to get and filter my
mail ( remember we are talking STUDENTS account here ! ).

#3. How do I get to send off all my mail that I wrote off-line and
queued just like I did in Eudora Lite. I don't really fancy the concept
of "cut-and-paste" for each msg as Rajarshi once suggested as that would
SUBSTANTIALLY inflate my phone bills as I DO send a lot of mails.

#4. Eudora has filters which channelizes my mail to my myriad tree of
mailboxes for easy viewing automatically after bringing in the mail. How
do I accomplish the same in :

a. Netscape [ The "Mail Filters" here are more designed to block spam it
seems !]
b. Pine

Please send detailed instructions if you have solutions/ideas to any/all
of the above enquiries. I also propose that if we DO know of and/or
manage to stream line the process above, it would be something that is
constructive which we can put up in our web site as a tutorial or
something. If necessary I am willing to collate the data and make/write
the page/frame/tutorial as per specification for our web site in this
matter.

Again I would request somebody to please post it in the main Linux list
as my account expired today and I am in the ham strung process of
getting ALL my mail channelized temporarily through a web based POP
account ( courtesy a friend who will log me in intermittently !) and
thus can't handle the volume !

Indra--- since you were asking, this is definitely one of the topics
that I would like culled from the mail ILUG list. Sorry I could not
package my request as per your requests !
