I was trying to compile kernel 2.3.5 when I got badly mauled by Linux.
Here is what happened ..... [ Pl advise on how I should recover from
this situation ...]

1. I booted with kernel 2.0.36

    a. Unpacked source in /usr/src/.... with tar -xvzf ker.....etc
    b. Did make menuconfig , make dep , make clean , make bzImage ,make
modules , make modules_install
    c. Copied bzImage from ./arch/i386/boot/ to /boot/ as vmlinuz-2.3.5
    d. Similarly copied System.map to /boot/ as System.map-2.3.5
    e. Deleted the old links and made new links to the new files
    f. Made the necessary addition to /etc/lilo.con & did lilo
    g. Did sync & reboot

        RESULT !!!!:
            i. New kernel starts up & I get a nice Penguin logo on the
top left corner of my screen.

ii. Kernel unpacks and finds hda and hdb (CD Rom et al)

iii. EVERYTHING FREEZES ! End of Story !

iv. Whole cycle is repeated 18 times till now ! So not a
freak case !

2. I booted with kernel 2.2.0-0.3

    a. Again unpacked source in /usr/src/.... with tar -xvzf ker.....etc
to wipe out old stuff........
    b. Did make menuconfig , make dep , make clean , make bzImage ,make
modules , make modules_install
    c. make bzImage goes bonkers and gives me a whole lot of
"Warning:...." msgs. No bzImage found in ./arch/i386/boot/......
    d. Repeated process 2.a ~ 2.c with make oldconfig and make config (
Same Options ) and SAME result !

        RESULT !!!!:
            i. Frustration and intense rage !

NOW WHAT DO I DO ?
